Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I save with an electric vehicle (EV)?

The savings an EV owner can expect compared to a gas-powered vehicle depend on several factors, including electricity costs, fuel prices, vehicle efficiency, maintenance expenses, and available incentives. While savings can vary based on individual circumstances, EV owners typically enjoy lower fuel and maintenance costs, along with benefits from tax credits and other incentives. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the cost per mile to drive an EV is approximately half that of driving a gas-powered vehicle, based on national average electricity and gas prices. Additionally, the DOE highlights that EVs tend to incur lower maintenance costs due to fewer moving parts, no oil changes, and reduced brake wear thanks to regenerative braking systems.

What’s it like to drive an EV?

Driving an EV offers an exhilarating experience, thanks to instant acceleration from the electric motor. With the batteries positioned in the floor, EVs have a lower center of gravity, ensuring agile handling, while a single-speed transmission provides a smooth driving experience. EV performance also contributes to energy efficiency; when decelerating, energy can be recaptured through regenerative braking, recharging the batteries. Furthermore, electric motors produce significantly less noise than internal combustion engines, resulting in a quieter ride.

Would my routine need to change to own an EV?

While some adjustments may be necessary—such as planning for charging on longer trips and no longer stopping at gas stations—charging at home can simplify your routine. Simply plug in your EV with a Level 2 charger overnight and wake up with a full battery. When charging on the road is necessary, a little planning ensures you can combine charging stops with meals, shopping, or errands.

How much maintenance is required for an EV?

Maintenance for an EV is minimal compared to a gasoline vehicle. EVs do not require scheduled oil changes, but regular servicing for tire rotations, alignments, and air filter changes is still necessary. The ZDX will also require inspections of the battery, electric motor, and cooling system. The Acura Maintenance Program* offers complimentary maintenance covering certain factory-scheduled services for up to two years or 24,000 miles, including tire rotations, multi-point inspections, cabin filter changes, and brake fluid replacements.

What if I want to take a road trip?

Planning ahead is key for a smooth road trip. Check available charging options along your route to your destination using the Acura EV app or Google Maps* in your ZDX. This will help you find charging stations and ensure optimal charging stops, keeping you on schedule. Many public charging stations are conveniently located near restaurants and shopping areas, allowing you to combine charging with meals or breaks.

Do I have to pay extra for the charging package?

No, you can choose from one of three charging packages offered by Acura as part of the MSRP to help offset installation and public charging costs.

Is EV charging cheaper than gas?

Generally, charging an EV costs less than fueling a gas-powered vehicle, though costs can vary by region. Public charging stations may have higher rates, but home charging is typically the most affordable option. Honda offers various charging packages with public charging credits and installation support, which are included with new EV purchases.

I already have an EV charging station at home. Which charging package should I choose?

If you already have a home charging station, Package Option C is the best choice, as it includes $750 in public charging credits. Learn more about your charging package options.
